In the future, the concept of "above and below" could define your life.

With Elysium, the director of "District 9", Neill Blomkamp, reuses an environment typical of science fiction to tell a story, with Matt Damon and Jodie Foster at the head of the cast, about human relationships and modern day society. In this case it's focused on equality among people. Elysium takes you to the year 2159, with an overcrowded planet Earth in ruins, where the very rich live in a neat space station called Elysium, while the rest survive as they can on the surface.

Obviously, those "below" aren't happy with their situation, under the shade of Elysium, which is dominated by the iron hand of the army, under the command of Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard government official, who'll stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium.

So when Max (Matt Damon), a simple survivor without much ambition, agrees to participate in an almost suicidal mission forced on him by the circumstances, not even he can imagine that the mission will be much more important than he thinks ... and that he could bring equality to these two completely polarized worlds.
